Since its founding as an independent organization in 1980, the United States Army First Instance Defense Service (TDS) has provided independent, competent, and ethical defense services to soldiers around the world whenever required by law or regulation, or when authorized by the Attorney General. TDS lawyers, who are not supervised or evaluated by any commanding officer at Fort Sill, represent soldiers before court-martial, administrative and criminal investigations while advising soldiers on pre-trial restraint, extrajudicial sanctions and many other undesirable acts. Soldiers do not need to be in the WTU (Warrior Transition Unit) to be eligible for the services of this office. The Administrative and Civil Law Department is the primary resource for commanders, assisting them in interpreting regulations, providing advice and guidance on investigations, and adhering to ethical standards. Administrative counsel also advise committees and inquiries, review separation orders, and provide general legal advice to command. The Department of Administrative Law is also responsible for Fort Sill`s ethics program. Civil lawyers advise and assist you in matters ranging from public contracts to environmental law.
