The flattened contact surface and increased weight do not guarantee any risk of slippage of the front wheel. I`ve had a great time the last few weeks with ABS in the snow with an old Saab 9000 Aero. It`s hilarious – you can pedal, apply the brake, cause a spin and use ABS as traction control while backing up and seeking grip. I probably don`t drive a day without ABS intervention because it`s so much fun to drive a hard car. I look like I can stop in the snow and at sub-zero temperatures without any problems. This is called *anticipation*.

The argument that non-ABS cars stop faster because of snow waste accumulating in front of a tire is false. This argument makes the difference between ABS and non-ABS brakes on snow seem conceptually insignificant – because no one would expect a few ounces of snow to do much to slow a vehicle down 1500 to 3000 pounds. On a normal car, yes. On a Leaf, I`m not sure I can clear flaccid mode. The Nissan service department also insisted that I would void my warranty if I connected a generic ODBII reader to my car. It`s probably BS, but it`s a great way to prevent people from solving their own problems instead of paying an outrageous $150 diagnostic fee. Each vehicle owner`s manual warns the driver to increase the following distances, as ABS brakes take longer to stop, especially on wet or icy roads. Perhaps you should read the owner`s manual for the cars you are testing.
